Classes at a Glance
We schedule classes and workshops throughout the year. The six week classes are scheduled for one day a week from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM and are $240 per student with a limit of five students.
Classes we offer include Introduction to Metalsmithing, Beginning Metalsmithing, Copper Wire Baskets, Folded Metal Projects, and Introduction to Drawing.
A Beginning Metalsmithing class will cover basic techniques for forming, joining and surfacing copper. Proper torch instruction is introduced in this class and assistance is given until the student feels comfortable handling the torch alone. Materials and tools are provided. Complete projects are provided but self expression is encouraged as students become familiar with the tools.
Workshops are scheduled on two or more consecutive days and participants will complete a specific project during this time. Workshops we have conducted include Copper Weather Vanes and Mokume Gane. The cost of the workshop may vary according to the materials used.
The next scheduled workshop is Copper Weather Vanes, November 23,24,25, 2007. Cost is $250 and participants will complete a weathervane of their design which will fit within a 13" X 21" rectangle. Oversize and more complicated projects are permitted with prior approval but may increase the cost of the workshop.
